Managing your account

Introduction

Once you have successfully bought a domain, you need a way of altering your settings. 123go has a management control panel for you to look after your domains with. You manage your domains one at a time, however once you've made changes to one domain, you can copy your settings onto other domains.

The management control panel is divided into panes. To see each pane, click on the big orange stripe with the desired pane in it. Each pane deals with a separate aspect of managing your domains. The following describes each panel in detail.

Logging In

To start the control panel, you need to log in. To log in you need your domain name and the password we emailed you when we set up your account. Get started by clicking on "Log In" on the navigation bars. These are found at the top and bottom of pages. When the authentication box pops up type in your domain in "username", and the password into "password".

If you own more than one domain, you need to be able to log in with different domains. To do this open a new browser every time you want to change the domain you are managing. Be sure not to select "Remember your Username and Password" if you are using Internet Explorer.

Purchase more domains and services

Not really a panel this, but it takes you to the page where you can upgrade your services. You can also buy more domains here which saves you the effort of typing in your details again

Your Details

This pane is about the details we hold for you. It allows you to change your name, your address, your phone numbers, and the email address we use to communicate with you. It is very important the email address is correct and valid.

Changing your details is straightforward. Just make changes to the details you wish to change, type in your password, and click Update. You will get a confirmation message, then the page will update showing the updated details.

You can also change your password here. Type in your old password into the relevant box. Type in your new password twice (you need to type in the password twice to make sure there are no spelling mistakes), then press Update. Again, you will get a confirmation message, and your password will be changed.

Domain Registration Tools

At the moment this page holds the option for moving your domain away from 123go, although more features will be added soon. Information on how to move away your domain.

Email Forwarding

This panel sets up your email forwarding. This panel looks different depending on which services you have bought.

The first type of display the panel can have is a message that your services have been disabled. This is usually because you have broken what we deem to be acceptable use. We will of written to tell you why.

If you do not have Advanced Email Forwarding, and your services are enabled (the default), a one line table will be displayed for you to alter your settings. All the email sent to each domain has it's email redirected to one email address. For instance if you own fishing.com, fred@fishing.com, bert@fishing.com and any other email address @fishing.com will have all it's email sent to an email address of your choice.

To set this up type in the address you want the email to be redirected to next to the domain. Press Update, and you will receive a confirmation message. Any email sent to your domains will now be forwarded to you.

The limitation with this is that email sent to fred@fishing.com (for example) cannot be sent to a different place from accounts@fishing.com. This problem can be overcome if you purchase Advanced Email Management.

If you have Advanced Email Management the panel looks different. Again a table is displayed, but with two columns and 100 rows. The two columns are a "from" and a "to" column. In the from on the left column put an email address, and in the to column on the right put the recipient.

At the top of the column is a special email recipient, *. * receives all the email sent to everyone who is not listed below.

For example suppose you wanted fred@fishing.com to be sent to fred@fish.123go.co.uk, accounts@fishing.com to be sent to accounts@fish.123go.co.uk and boss@fishing.com to be sent to bob@aol.com. Your table should look like this:

Diagram of table

All email sent to accounts, boss and fred will be sent to the right place. Any email sent to fishing.com but not sent to either boss, accounts or fred will be sent to all@fish.123go.co.uk.

Once you have finished configuring email forwarding press Update. A confirmation message will appear.

Holding Page

The holding page panel allows you to set up a quick holding page with your details. A holding page is a one page web site attached to your domain.

To use fill in your details. The panel pre-enters the data we have on you already. Type in a message in the large text box, then press Submit when your happy. Visit your website (go to www.yourwebsite.com) to see what it looks like.

Web Forwarding

Web forwarding allows people who type in www.yourdomain.com to see a website. It does this by invisibly redirecting web traffic from the domain name to the website you want them to view. This website can be anywhere on the web.

Once you have decided where you want each of your domains to point to, updating it is easy. Simply fill in the websites details in the Redirect to... box, not forgetting the http:// at the beginning. You may also type in a title for the page in the Title box, and if you want your page to have any META tags (typically used so search engines can find your file), type them in. Once finished press update. you will receive a Conformation message.

Copy Settings

If you have more than one domain, and want to set them up with similar settings, this feature could help. It copies all the settings you select from one domain to another. To use, log in as the domain you want to copy from and open the panel. Type in the domain you want to copy to in the target box (without the "www."). Select which settings you want to copy across, then type in the password for your target domain. Press Submit, and the required settings will be copied, overwriting the settings currently for the target domain.

History

This panel presents all the orders you have associated with a given domain. It tells you when you bought them, and how much you paid for them.
