Buying a domain with 123go step-by-step

Buying a domain is extremely straightforward using 123go (What is a domain?).

  1. Firstly decide what domain name you want. Domain names are a name for your website (for instance if I choose helicopter.com the website becomes www.helicopter.com) and your email addresses (helicopter.com could have email addresses bob@helicopter.com, mark@helicopter.com and sheila@helicopter.com for example).
  2. Next open the 123go home page, or click on "Get a domain" on a toolbar (the bars at the top and bottom of a page).
  3. On the home page or the "Get a domain" page there is a box for your domain. Type the domain name you want here, but leave off the ending (.com, .net, .co.uk etc.). Press the button.
  4. A form for you to fill in some details appears. This form may take a few seconds to appear - please be patient. At the top of this form is a list of domains. Those which are unavailable have been taken by someone else. If you are curious as to who, you can click on "see who's got it" to find out some information about current owner.

You can purchase as many of the domains that are available as you would like. There are 5 types of domains available

    .com
    US commercial domain
    .org
    US organisation domain
    .net
    US "network" domain
    .co.uk
    UK commercial domain
    .org.uk
    UK organisation domain
Although .com, .org and .net are formally US domains, in practise they are international - companies that trade all over the world generally are .com. There are no limits as to who can own these domains: you do not have to be a company to get a .co.uk or .com. Often a company or organisation buys all the domains of it's name available.
  5. Once you have selected which domains you would like, it is time to consider which additional services you need. All our services are described on the services section of this website. You do not have to buy any services now, and you can add services at a later date.
  6. Next fill in your details. Your details must match those on your credit card, otherwise your credit card will not process. Press Go! to finish. Even after pressing Go!, you still have not bought anything
  7. The conformation page will come up if you have entered all the required details. Check the details carefully especially the email address! If all is correct, press Confirm.
  8. Congratulations, you have now ordered a domain! Check on the finishing page that all your domains have been ordered correctly. Check your email for instructions on how to use your domains. Note: Receiving your domains can take up to 24 hours after they have been ordered.
